Seven Days

I have a notebook that I keep with me when I'm crocheting. I use it to make notes for each item I crochet. I keep track of stitches, yarn used, hook sizes and measurements. This is handy, because if I ever need to make adjustments on an item, I always have a starting point to work from.

Today, as I pulled the notebook out to use it, I noticed the date at the top of the last page of notes — August 11, 2010.

It made me realize I haven’t crocheted anything new in seven days. That’s very unusual for me, because I have been working at a really fast pace getting my shop on etsy stocked with new items. Seven days is a long time when you are running your own business.

During that time, I actively did things to work on my business, but it feels very strange to know I went seven days without making anything.

I don’t want to let that happen again.

Make a scarf of some sort

A Beanie, Naturally

What in the world could be better than a natural colored beanie? A natural colored beanie with pastel color-flecks in it, that’s what.

This hat is made from 100% cotton yarn. One size fits most heads, teen through adult.

Machine wash in cold water on the delicate cycle, or hand wash. Lay flat to dry to avoid shrinkage.

The hat measures 7.5 inches from crown to brim.

This hat was also made with lots of love.

But I have a big head!

I have a friend named Michele that lives down in La Jolla. When I started crocheting oh so long ago, she asked me if I ever made hats to fit really gigantic heads.

I thought her request was rather funny; most hats I make can fit any size head, so why would she think her head was any different?

Then I got braids, and figured out that most of my favorite hats didn’t fit quite the same because of the bulk of hair I was trying to stuff into them; the braids made my hair/head bigger.

A light bulb went off in my head. I needed to learn to craft beanies for bigger heads, bigger hair and for people who just like big, loose fitting hats.

This is how my Big Gigantic Head beanies were born.

These hats are made with 100% cotton yarn. They can be machine washed on a cold, delicate cycle. Although you could put them in the dryer, I would recommend laying flat to dry to avoid shrinkage. Of course, if you decide you want to shrink it once you have it, by all means go for it.
